A Run for Coach
I couldn’t attend Coach Rodgers’ memorial in West Virginia, so that morning I did the one thing that seemed most appropriate. I went for a run.
On July 2, I wrote an essay about Coach Rodgers in The Beautiful Full Circle. The essay grew out of email exchanges among my teammates on the day of the memorial.
On Monday, June 29, Coach’s family held a memorial for him in West Virginia. I wasn’t able to be there.
So, on the morning of his memorial, I did the one thing that seemed most appropriate.
I went for a run.
I carried my iPhone in my hand, turned on the camera, and talked to Coach along the way. There was no script and not much of a plan. It was simply my way of being there when I couldn’t actually be there.
