Long Live Tower Records!

Even though I was buying records long before I discovered Tower Records, I have to admit when I think of record stores the first one to come to mind is Tower Records. Hell, I even worked in a record store in my teens and still Tower is the one. Tower was more than a place to buy albums, it was a happening.  It was a musical event with music blasting and all types of interesting people in the store.  Just a very, very cool place.

Story time…A friend and I went up to the Tower store in El Toro, CA one afternoon simply to hang out.  We get there and in a vacant lot next to the store a band is setting up for a free concert.  We’re all like, this is cool.  We listen and I am instantly hooked.  The band was The Naughty Sweeties.  So, I go running into the store and ask for their album.  Had to have it!  The album is called “Chinatown” and at home I played the grooves off that album.

I would love to talk about the 45’s and the albums I purchased.  I’ll talk about the influence of my parents on my love of music.  I will describe concert experiences and how my “preparation” for a show has changed over the years.  We can talk about radio and its influences.  We can examine how we were held hostage by radio program directors to now being our own program directors.  We can consider the idea that maybe a little something has been lost with the ability to create our own playlists.

But most of all, we want to hear about your experiences.  Music is such an emotive art form, and no two people have the same reaction to a song.  So, please tell us what moves you and how it moves you and why it moves you.

As I heard or read somewhere, who knows, Life Without Music Would Be A Mistake!
