Education – My True Passion

In this category I will share posts regarding my true passion and calling in life, Education. I will share stories of personal experiences of what it was like to attend five elementary schools, three junior high, and three high schools. I will share how that affected my classroom performance and the effect it had on my future focus (shocker…it wasn’t good).

In the coming posts I will tell you what it’s like to be a teacher today and what it was like to be a teacher 20 years ago. Be assured, there are differences. I will tell you what it is like to teach in a suburban public high school in Southern California and in a very rural high school in Virginia. Truth be told, my favorite assignment was teaching at an all-boys Roman Catholic high school in Southern California. I will also share the experience of substitute teaching.

But after all the above has been discussed, the main force of this category will be exploring where education is headed. I am excited to research where education is going and share my findings with you. My firm belief is we are at the onset of an educational retooling and I want to help make the pieces work together.  What will classrooms look like five years from now?  What will the role of teachers be next year or in five years? What will students use as educational tools?  Will text books be merely supplements and study guides?  How will the school day/school year be structured? All of these questions and I am thrilled by the possibilities.
